We are proud to offer over ten different ensembles including symphonic bands, jazz bands, jazz combos, wind ensembles, percussion ensembles and pep band. Our award winning program is student centered with a philosophy based on the five Characteristics of Marianist Education. Each year, band students work with outstanding guest conductors, clinicians and performers. In addition, we perform at area schools and travel to festivals throughout the Midwest. In 2005, Jazz Band I and PM Combo traveled to Sydney and Brisbane, Australia. Many students take advantage of opportunities to perform in honor bands and ensembles.
The Middle School Band Curriculum offers Beginning Band for students learning to play an instrument for the first time and Intermediate Band for students with one or more years of experience on an instrument. These bands meet every day during the school day. There is also an extra-curricular Middle School Jazz Band which meets two days a week; once before school and once after school.
The High School Band Curriculum offers Beginning Band for students learning to play an instrument for the first time, Symphonic Band for students with one or more years of experience on an instrument, and Wind Ensemble for more advanced players and upper-classmen. These classes meet every other day for 90 minutes each. The jazz program at the high school level includes Jazz Band I and Jazz Band II. These classes meet several times each week before and after school. In addition, Chaminade offers Jazz Combo I and Jazz Combo II as extracurricular ensembles which also meet before and after school.
The Intermediate Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble include Percussion Ensembles under the direction of Percussion Specialist Mr. Chris Treloar. These ensembles present a Percussion Concert each year.
The Red Devil Pep Band performs at home football and basketball games. It is comprised of volunteer members from the high school bands.
The music curriculum also includes Music Workshop, a one semester music theory lab, and Advanced Music Theory, an AP course which may also be taken for college credit.
