The sixth grade can best be described as a time of transition and adjustment. As the primary entry level for Chaminade students, the sixth grade strives to prepare boys for the academic, athletic, spiritual, and emotional gauntlet that accompanies the middle school years. To achieve this goal, the sixth grade faculty works together to provide and promote a welcoming environment, in which boys can find success. Sixth grade boys are adopted into a mentor group where they will meet daily with their mentor teacher and fellow middle school students.
When boys choose to attend Chaminade, they bring with them a diverse set of talents and abilities. During their first year at Chaminade, sixth grade students are encouraged to express their existing talents, while simultaneously developing new skills. A demanding curriculum, tied to a well-developed music, athletics, and activities program, allows each boy to find success on a daily basis.
Sixth grade gentlemen are engrossed in a technology rich, writing intensive curriculum that ties traditional disciplines together to create an interdisciplinary approach to instruction. The core curriculum of Mathematics, Science, English, Religion, History, and Physical Education is supplemented with laptop technology, which punctuates each course with cutting edge pedagogy. The sixth grade faculty meets frequently to discuss the progress of individuals, and the class as a whole, in an effort to make sure that each boy feels welcome and makes his transition to Chaminade smoothly.
