Course Description:  This course begins with a study of properties and the use of variables.  Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on the following topics; decimals, geometry, fractions, solving equations, percents, areas and volumes, and integers.

 

Desired Learning Outcomes and Evidence for Assessment:  The students must show competence in the topics listed above by successfully completing a series of quizzes and a test for each chapter that is covered in the text.  In addition, two comprehensive exams will be administered.  These exams will be given at the end of each semester.

 

Class Text:  Math Course 3, by Larson, Boswell, Kanold and Stiff;  McDougall Littell 2007 

Laptop Usage:  Laptops will be used daily to access the ebook text and to view practices on www.classzone.com and other web sites. 

 

Performance Expectations:  Students are expected to perform at the highest level that their ability will allow.  It is expected that the students will experience difficulties at times.  They are expected to take the responsibility to find the means of conquering these difficult problems.

 

Student Evaluation/Grading:  Students are evaluated based on their effort on homework, projects, problem solving, quiz scores, test scores, and exam scores.

 

Student Decorum:  Students are expected to show responsibility and respect.  They must respect themselves, respect other students, and respect the teacher.

 

Cheating, Plagiarism:  The student will receive a failing grade for any act of cheating or plagiarism.  The incident will be reported to the administration.
