Expectations of the AP Student

The AP Chemistry student is expected to :

  • 1. have a good work ethic and a positive attitude.
  • 2. have completed Honors Chemistry and or have a written recommendation from both a math and general chemistry professor.
  • 3. take the time and energy to complete homework assignments (at least  45 minutes to an hour and a half daily).
  • 5. purchase and maintain a lab notebook (provided at cost by instructor). This is considered to be your personal property as you will need to keep this. This is required by the College Board and may need to be presented to your future college in order to receive lab credit.
  • 6. spend additional time if necessary during seminar or after school to finish labs.
  • 7. memorize lists of polyatomic ions, oxidation states, oxidizing agents and other materials deemed necessary for the successful completion of the AP Chemistry course.
  • 8. seek extra help immediately if content is not understood (if you do not you will get swamped in this fast-paced course).
  • 9. bring calculators to class daily.
  • 10. take the AP Chemistry exam (cost is $78.00).
